Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul are still flying the flag for America in the men’s singles at Roland Garros.

Both players have now achieved the best run of their careers at the clay court Grand Slam.

Paul will face Carlos Alcaraz for a spot in the last eight while Tiafoe will take on Lorenzo Musetti in his quarter-final.

This will be the toughest test of their respective campaigns so far, but the duo are ready to keep their quest for Grand Slam glory alive.

What did Frances Tiafoe say to Tommy Paul after they reached the French Open quarter-finals?

On Sunday, both Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe booked their places in the French Open quarter-finals.

Tiafoe defeated Germany’s Daniel Altmaier in straight sets before Paul overcame Alexei Popyrin in three sets. Tiafoe and Paul are the first two American quarter-finalists at the French since Jim Courier and Pete Sampras.

The 27-year-old told reporters about how he and Paul reacted to their latest victories and he hopes they can continue to be successful in Paris.

“It’s unspoken. We are all super happy for each other,” he said. “A lot of guys are hitting each other up and really happy for each other but we are not sitting there talking ‘oh my God it’s crazy we are in the quarters’.

“But it’s been incredible. When you see guys you grew up with winning and doing stuff, you are like well this guy can do it so I have got to be able to do it.

“I think it’s kind of an unspoken thing. But Tommy hit me up right after the match like ‘let’s go, congratulations’ and after I saw he won earlier we gave each other a huge hug. We are all super happy for each other and it’s genuine love. Hopefully we just keep rocking.”

Frances Tiafoe matches Andre Agassi feat at the French Open

Tiafoe won 30 of 37 net points on the way to defeating the unseeded Altmaier 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4).

The World number 16 extended his unbeaten run against the German to three matches and he now has a chance to reach the last four at the French Open.

What is most impressive is that Tiafoe has reached the last eight in Paris without dropping a set, and he is the first American man to achieve this feat since Andre Agassi in 1995.

He will put that statistic on the line against Musetti in the quarter-finals, who he has won three of his five matches against.

Their last contest came at the 2024 Cincinnati Masters. Tiafoe scored a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win that day, but their French Open quarter-final is likely to be far more competitive.
