Americans are itching for native success at this year’s US Open after a resurgence in form from the country’s top stars.
Frances Tiafoe made a spectacular run to the semi-finals in 2022 but was agonizingly beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller.
Despite being knocked out by compatriot Ben Shelton in last year’s quarter-final, Tiafoe seems to be primed for another deep run after reaching his maiden Masters final in Cincinnati last week.
The 26-year-old now joins four other American men inside the world’s top 20, all in with a shot at triumphing at Flushing Meadows.

American tennis has undergone a resurgence over the past 18 months which is reflected at the top end of the ATP rankings.
Tommy Paul has developed into a well-rounded, versatile threat after adding his first 500-level title to his cabinet at Queen’s earlier this year.
Taylor Fritz has also maintained consistency, regularly contending in the latter stages of tournaments.
While these two players, along with Shelton, are paving the way for American men’s tennis, Frances Tiafoe believes another US player will beat them to their first major.
“I don’t even know man, it’s hard to say anyone but myself,” Tiafoe said when quizzed on the topic.
“Ability wise all those have the capability to do it, but let’s go Sebby [Sebastian Korda]. I like his game. He is super, super complete.”

Tiafoe is not the only one to string together some impressive performances on the North American hard courts, generating excitement about his prospects for the US Open.
Sebastian Korda is coming into the final major of the year in red-hot form after clinching the title in Washington.
The 24-year-old then followed it up with a stellar run to the semi-finals in Montreal, defeating number two seed Alexander Zverev on the way.
He rounds off a group of five Americans who are eager to their campaigns underway next week.
Whichever way you turn at Flushing Meadows this year, American success is bound to be in sight.
