Frances Tiafoe has been hugely hampered by injury in recent times, but fortunately has recovered in time for Wimbledon.

The American withdrew early from Queen’s after suffering an MCL strain, with fears emerging that it could force him to miss Wimbledon.

But a quick recovery was made, with Tiafoe having already secured his place in round two of the iconic competition.

He was, however, made to work very hard to clinch his second-round spot, having overcome Matteo Arnaldi in five sets.

It perhaps summarises how 2024 has gone for Tiafoe, with the world number 29 enduring a roller-coaster year.

Frances Tiafoe drops new coach hint after Wimbledon win

Injuries have played a major factor in the 26-year-old American posting a record of 13 wins and 14 losses.

But his team also plays a key role in success on the court, with Tiafoe now dropping a hint about his next coach following his first round win at Wimbledon.

“I mean for a guy like me, for what I have already done and have achieved in my career, I want a guy who has also done or coached at a high level,” said Tiafoe, as per Tennis Channel.

“Who has experience of going deep in slams, been top 10, coached guys top 10 or coached guys to win a slam, because that’s where I want to be.

“I want to be contending in a lot of these weeks, getting back to the top of the game and contending for majors, because that’s what I feel I’m capable of.”

How far can Frances Tiafoe go at Wimbledon?

Tiafoe confirmed at the end of 2023 that he would begin 2024 working with Diego Moyano, having split with long-term coach Wayne Ferreira.

The American enjoyed a superb run with the South African, reaching a career-high ranking of number 10, along with his first Grand Slam semi-final appearance at the 2022 US Open.

But three years were brought to an end as Tiafoe partnered with Moyano, who has worked with the likes of Coco Gauff and Tommy Paul.

The experienced Argentine had also previously worked with Tiafoe when he was a Lead National Coach for the USTA.

That partnership was, however, concluded after just four months, with Moyano confirming the split in April.

Former world number 10 Tiafoe clearly has grand plans to get back to his very best, beginning with a strong run at Wimbledon.

He has been drawn to face Borna Coric in round two of the tournament, with the American full of praise for the Croatian ahead of their match.
