Frances Tiafoe achieved a real career milestone after beating Jakub Mensik at the Miami Open.

Tiafoe had a disappointing 2025 season, but he has already improved his form this year which has enabled him to return to the top 20 in the ATP rankings.

This was showcased in his latest victory, as Tiafoe saved two match points to beat last year’s Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(11).

Tiafoe has now won 250 matches on the ATP Tour, becoming only the second active American to achieve this feat alongside Taylor Fritz.

After reaching this milestone, Tiafoe has revealed just how many matches he would like to win before retiring from tennis.

Frances Tiafoe targets 500 wins on the ATP Tour before retiring

After beating Mensik in a match lasting over three hours, Tiafoe spoke to Tennis Channel about his achievement.

In this interview, Tiafoe revealed that he was hoping to win another 250 matches to reach the 500 mark before he retires from tennis.

“I have been around for a while! That is a lot of dubs (wins) out here,” said Tiafoe, who is 28 years old. “I want to continue to keep going on that. I want to hit 300 pretty soon here.

“The goal when I am done is that I would love to be close to 500. That is a big number, so I have got to really put the head down the next few years, but that is the goal for me.”

As an American, Tiafoe is one of the most supported players at the Miami Open, something he thrives on.

He added, “They get behind me here, especially out on Grandstand. I really like the courts out here.”

Tiafoe is one of five American players in the last-16 of the Miami Open, alongside Fritz, Tommy Paul, Sebastian Korda, who beat Carlos Alcaraz, and Alex Michelsen.

How many active ATP players have 500 match wins?

While Tiafoe has high ambitions to achieve 500 match wins, it is going to be a very difficult goal for him to fulfil.

This milestone has been reached by 57 players in ATP history, but only four of these players are active right now.

Tiafoe will look to win his 251st match at the Miami Open, where he has only reached the quarterfinals once before.

As he bids to equal his best previous result in Miami, Tiafoe will play Frenchman Terence Atmane.

This will be a second meeting between the two players, with Tiafoe beating Atmane in Dallas just last month.
