A player who has reached the final of Wimbledon has shockingly been overlooked for a wildcard for this year’s tournament.
Wildcards are normally given to homegrown players – or to performers who have achieved success at a particular tournament.
Wimbledon will take centre stage on the tennis calendar in July and the two-week extravaganza is quickly coming around.
Now, the list of wildcards has been announced and it’s bad news for one player who had a successful run of form in 2016 at SW19.

Milos Raonic has been overlooked for Wimbledon wildcard
This is shocking news to emerge from Wimbledon – courtesy of journalist Jacob Pacheo – and Milos Raonic might now ditch playing on the grass for this year.
Ranked at 186 in the world, Raonic would have needed a wildcard to play in London this year.
The former world number three could enter qualifying but that would mean coming through three matches in four days and he’s withdrawn.
His body has been put through the wringer in recent years and ultimately that sort of schedule simply won’t do for Raonic.
The player is now 33-years-old and ultimately it seems pretty poor form that he’s not been offered a place in the main draw.
Raonic breaks serve record but misses out on Wimbledon
This news come on the back of Raonic smashing down 47 aces in a record-breaking match against Cameron Norrie at Queen’s.
Now, after getting some game time on the grass this week, it’s all proved in vain with Wimbledon not offering him a wildcard.
It does feel somewhat strange that he’s not been given a place in the draw given that it was only an inspired Andy Murray that stopped him from winning the title in 2016.
With Raonic suffering several injuries over the years, it’s not easy to work out what comes next for the Canadian player.
It would be nice to think he can come back to Wimbledon once more before he calls things quits but now it doesn’t feel certain that he will.
