The Australian Open could have a former top 10 player returning to the tournament next year.

Although the main draw is yet to get underway, many top players have been competing as part of fan week.

This includes both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner playing the One Point Slam, which appears to have gone down a treat.

After watching the event for the first time, a former world number four has revealed that she may reconsider her retirement to play it next year.

Caroline Garcia hints that she could return to the Australian Open

Caroline Garcia is a former WTA Finals champion, who won a total of 11 titles in her career and reached a best career ranking of world number four.

After competing on the WTA Tour for 14 years, Garcia officially retired from tennis at the US Open last year.

Despite claiming she was happy with her decision at the time, Garcia may be reconsidering her decision after watching an amateur win the One Point Slam.

Garcia wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Thinking about getting ready for next year’s 1-point Slam at the @AustralianOpen. Thoughts?”

It has already been proven that former players can compete in the event, with former world number one and now Andrey Rublev’s coach, Marat Safin, playing at the One Point Slam this year.

Daniil Medvedev says what he thought about the One Point Slam

There has been a very positive reaction to the One Point Slam this year, with Taylor Fritz even admitting that he made a mistake by not playing the event.

One of the players who did compete at the One Point Slam was former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, who has just won the Brisbane International.

Medvedev was able to beat an amateur player in his first match, before being beaten in his second point by Amanda Anisimova.

Despite not getting very far in the event, Medvedev has posted on social media to express how much he enjoyed the event.

The former world number one wrote on X, “That was fun! @AustralianOpen.”

Medvedev will now switch his attention to the official Australian Open tournament, where he will play Jesper De Jong in the first round.
