Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have dominated men’s tennis over the last two years and seem unstoppable at the moment.

The world number one and two have won the last eight available Grand Slam titles, and lead number three Alexander Zverev by over 5,000 points in the ATP rankings.

Many expect the pair to continue to pick up majors over the next decade, potentially surpassing some of the records set by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

But what sets them apart from the rest of the field?

During an exclusive interview with The Tennis Gazette, former Wimbledon semifinalist Vladimir Voltchkov explained how the world number one and two have managed to get a leg up on their ATP rivals.

Vladimir Voltchkov says Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have more ‘complete’ games than their rivals

The Belarusian tennis legend believes Sinner and Alcaraz are enjoying as much success as they are for one key reason.

“I believe the reason why Jannik Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz are so successful, these days, is because these guys, even though they are not at the net as much as Roger [Federer] would be, I still believe they are coming in and constructing the game, building their game, a lot more complete than the rest of the field,” said Voltchkov.

“This is what separates them.”

Voltchkov proceeded to highlight what Alcaraz does differently from other Spanish players.

“Normally, Alcaraz coming out of Spain, you would think this is going to be a fantastic baseliner, just grinding all the balls,” he said.

“But actually, if you look at his statistics, the amount of time he spends coming to the net, and being extremely aggressive off the short balls, and not just the short balls, but situationally…

“Sometimes after a great shot, he is so quick to analyse, if his ball penetrated enough for him to come in, the way he reads the game is great, and the same with [Jannik] Sinner.

“I believe that the reason why these two guys are outstanding these days is because they are so much better and so much more complete as players, which allows them to be there.”

Alcaraz and Sinner are indeed ‘outstanding’ and have only suffered 13 defeats between them in 2025.

Alcaraz has won eight titles this year, while Sinner has picked up five, an impressive tally given the difficulties he’s had in 2025 (three-month suspension).

Both players will be eager to add one more to their collection in Turin when they take to the court for the ATP Finals.

The 2025 ATP Finals are scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 9.
