Marketa Vondrousova has postponed her return to singles competition after withdrawing from another tournament.
Vondrousova became a Grand Slam champion in 2023, when she beat Ons Jabeur to win the Wimbledon title.
However, the Czech has been dealing with many injury issues since then, most notably a shoulder issue that Vondrousova underwent surgery on in August 2024.
These shoulder issues have continued into 2026, and forced Vondrousova to withdraw from the Australian Open, and she is yet to play another singles match since then.
Marketa Vondrousova withdraws from the Open de Rouen
Vondrousova has only played two singles matches so far this year, with her last coming in a win against Liudmila Samsonova in Adelaide.
The former world number six has not played another singles match since then, but Vondrousova did play her first match in three months in doubles in Czechia’s Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier against Switzerland.
Vondrousova and teenager Tereza Valentova were beaten by the pairing of Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic, but Czechia still went on to win the tie and qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
The 26-year-old was scheduled to make her WTA Tour return at the 250 level tournament in Rouen, and Vondrousova was actually in the draw to play against Tatjana Maria in the first round.
However, it appears that Vondrousova is not yet ready to return to singles competition, as she has now withdrawn from the Open de Rouen.
Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot has subsequently been upgraded to a seed in the draw and will now play Maria instead.

Despite her recent inactivity, Vondrousova is still ranked inside the top 50 of the WTA rankings.
Vondrousova is still scheduled to compete in two upcoming clay court tournaments ahead of the French Open.
The first of those is at the Madrid Open, before Vondrousova then returns to the Italian Open, where she is a former semifinalist.
Although Vondrousova won her sole Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, she has also produced some of her best career results on clay.
This includes Vondrousova winning her first WTA title on clay when she was 17 years old, as well as reaching her first major final at the 2019 French Open.
