Former world number one Karolina Pliskova has made a tennis comeback.
Pliskova was unable to walk around 12 months ago with an injury that threatened to derail her career somewhat.
Now, however, it would feel that the building blocks are being put back in place with Pliskova having successful surgery and entering a tournament for the first time in months.
The first tournament back hasn’t quite gone according to plan, but nonetheless, the Czech player has at least come through two matches without injury.

Karolina Pliskova loses in second round on tournament comeback
It might only be a WTA 125 event, but just seeing Pliskova back on a court is a bonus.
The former Wimbledon and US Open finalist beat Tessah Andrianjafitrimo in round one with a three-set victory.
However, it wasn’t to be against Polina Iatcenko, with Pliskova going down in three, despite winning the first set of the match.
Pliskova is currently ranked down at 132 and hasn’t yet announced any retirement plans, suggesting she could play on.
Pliskova can still make waves if she can stay fit
Staying fit and healthy is key for any tennis player and that’s what Pliskova is now striving for.
The right-handed player was the world’s number one player back in 2017 after reaching the final of the US Open in 2016.
Perhaps the pinnacle of her career came in 2021 when she made the final at Wimbledon before succumbing to Ash Barty in the final.
Although her comeback in Portugal didn’t quite go according to plan in terms of results, it was refreshing to see her playing again, and hopefully that can become the norm again in the future
