The final WTA 1000 event of the season will get underway in Wuhan following the conclusion of the China Open.
World number one and three-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will make her return to action at the tournament, playing her first match since winning the US Open.
On the other side of the draw, second seed Iga Swiatek will look to bounce back after bowing out in the fourth round in Beijing to Emma Navarro.
Plenty of points are up for grabs at the Wuhan Open, but for one former Grand Slam champion, her campaign at the competition has already ended.

Former Grand Slam winner made to qualify for the Wuhan Open
After losing in the qualifying stages, 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has failed to secure a place in the main draw of the Wuhan Open.
The Canadian, who triumphed over Serena Williams to hoist the title at Flushing Meadows six years ago, is currently ranked 181st in the world, having suffered multiple injury setbacks in recent years.
In an interview with Tennis365, Andreescu said of having to qualify for a WTA tournament: “It is certainly a blow to the ego, but I have to put that to one side.
“It was many years ago that I won the US Open, and so much has happened since then. I still have big ambitions. I know what I can accomplish.

“So finding that balance of being patient and being that go-getter that I am to try and get back to the top is a bit tricky.
“The problem is that I have been so on and off (with injuries) that I don’t have much rhythm in my playing style. That is going to be a big thing to get back to the top.
“In tennis, it’s literally a point here, a point there, and if you can really sharpen those instincts during those times, I think it’ll make a great difference, but it’s definitely not easy for sure.”
Bianca Andreescu’s incredible run to the 2019 US Open title
Andreescu knocked out several big names in her 2019 US Open campaign and dropped just two sets en route to the title.
After two comfortable straight-set victories in rounds one and two, she defeated former world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the third round.
| Round | Opponent |
| Final | Serena Williams |
| Semifinals | Belinda Bencic |
| Quarterfinals | Elise Mertens |
| Fourth Round | Taylor Townsend |
| Third Round | Caroline Wozniacki |
| Second Round | Kirsten Flipkens |
| First Round | Katie Volynets |
She then overcame Taylor Townsend, before besting seeded stars Elise Mertens and Belinda Bencic to reach the final.
Pitted against Williams in the championship match, Andreescu conquered the 23-time Grand Slam champion 6-3, 7-5 to clinch a maiden major title.
