The withdrawals from the upcoming Canadian Open have continued in both the ATP and WTA events.

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Canadian Open first, with both players seeking more time after reaching the latter stages of Wimbledon.

They were soon to be joined by Carlos Alcaraz, which has highlighted an issue on the ATP Tour that needs fixing.

This issue continues to be present after two more players have taken the number of withdrawals in the men’s event to seven.

Hubert Hurkacz and Sebastian Korda continue Canadian Open withdrawals

Hubert Hurkacz has struggled with a knee injury for months, and has recently undergone surgery on the issue.

The former world number six was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon this year due to this issue, and now this has also caused him to pull out of the Canadian Open, the tournament where he was a runner-up in 2022.

Hurkacz is one of two players who have been announced as the latest withdrawals from the ATP tournament in Toronto.

The other is Sebastian Korda, who is dealing with a long-term injury of his own.

This takes the withdrawal list in the ATP Canadian Open to seven, with the women’s event in Montreal not far behind.

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka had already withdrawn from the Canadian Open, with Qinwen Zheng and Donna Vekic now following suit.

Both Sabalenka and Vekic appear to have pulled out for scheduling reasons, while Zheng has undergone surgery and is confirmed to miss the entire North American hard court swing including the US Open.

Hubert Hurkacz set to fall to his lowest ranking since 2019

Not only does Hurkacz’s withdrawal from the Canadian Open continue his absence from the ATP Tour, but it is also set to have a significant impact on his ranking.

Hurkacz reached the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open in 2024, and is now confirmed to drop 200 ranking points after announcing his withdrawal from this year’s event.

The Pole is also defending 200 ranking points from reaching the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open, and is now set to fall outside the top 50 in the ATP rankings for the first time since 2019.

In addition, Korda is defending 900 points from last year at two events he has now withdrawn from, after winning the Washington Open and reaching the Canadian Open semifinals in 2018.

The American will now plummet down the ATP rankings and could even fall outside the top 80.
