The United Cup has dominated much of the talk of the early stages of the ATP Tour season, with the event also involving WTA players.

The likes of Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff are representing the USA, with fellow heavyweights Iga Swiatek, Alexander Zverev and many more also taking part.

But the Brisbane International and Hong Kong Tennis Open are also now underway on the ATP Tour, ahead of the imminent return of the Australian Open.

Home favorite Nick Kyrgios is taking on the Brisbane International after receiving a wildcard, while iconic figure Marin Cilic is playing in Hong Kong.

Marin Cilic wins match for 21st consecutive ATP season

And Cilic has enjoyed a dream start at the ATP 250 event, winning his opening match against Adrian Mannarino.

Cilic, who won the 2014 US Open and reached number three in the world rankings, beat the Frenchman 6-3, 6-2.

The Croatian veteran has now claimed at least one win on the ATP Tour in 21 consecutive seasons, with that stunning run dating back to 2006.

The 37-year-old, who is currently ranked 70th on the ATP Tour, will take on Nuno Borges in the next round.

It was a memorable moment in Hong Kong for Cilic, who shared his delight at the victory immediately afterwards.

He commented: “It’s a great way to start the new season. It’s great to be back in Hong Kong with a beautiful atmosphere.

“My family is here… my boys love to watch me and give me great energy, so I have great eye contact with them and celebrate the victory with them.”

Cilic is, of course, now beyond his peak, but the veteran is still showing some signs of the player he once was.

Along with his superb US Open triumph, the Croatian once reached the finals of Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Those finals arrived in 2017 and 2018 respectively, but Cilic was beaten to the title on both occasions by Roger Federer.

Very similarly, his fellow veteran Stan Wawrinka has been impressing at the United Cup, with the 40-year-old having just started his last ever season on the ATP Tour.
