Iga Swiatek is out of the Madrid Open after a crushing straight-sets defeat in the semi-final to Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-1.
Swiatek suffered her worst clay court defeat in six years, losing 11 straight games against the American during the match.
The world number two admitted ‘everything collapsed’ in her clash against Gauff, who will play her first Madrid Open final against Aryna Sabalenka.
Swiatek, who held the Madrid Open trophy aloft last year, could now fall below Gauff in the WTA rankings following the defeat, should the former US Open champion go on to win the tournament.
Former British tennis player Colin Fleming spoke after the match on Swiatek’s out-of-character performance.

Swiatek hit 21 unforced errors over the course of a match that lasted just 68 minutes.
Following the defeat, Fleming said: “Swiatek was out of sorts. She really looked like she was struggling on her forehand. I could not believe the number of errors she was making on her forehand. Rushing between points.”
“Part of it was because of how well Coco was serving, I think it was five aces and no double faults in the first set, which is a real barometer for me on how confident she is, how well she is playing and how well she is serving.”
“It was a combination of Coco Gauff playing well and rushing Swiatek early on but then Swiatek complete unravelling. A really worrying performance from her point of view.”

Swiatek was dominated by Gauff on the stat sheet on almost every metric, solely bettering the American in first serve percentage.
The five-time grand slam champion registered just one ace to Gauff’s six, winning just 35% of points on her first serve.

Swiatek’s points total was less than half of Gauff’s at just 26, only managing to string together a maximum of two points in a row throughout the entire match.
Perhaps the biggest differential in the contest was in receiving points won, where Gauff’s tally of 29 superceeded Swiatek’s six.
