Grigor Dimitrov has struggled to get going so far in his 2026 campaign on the ATP Tour.
After spending a large portion of 2025 sidelined with a pectoral injury, Dimitrov returned to action at the Paris Masters last year, which marked his last tournament appearance of the season.
So far this year, the Bulgarian has entered four events and stayed healthy, but he has only picked up one victory, which he managed at the Brisbane International.

After that, Dimitrov suffered three consecutive first-round exits at the Australian Open, the Dallas Open and the Mexican Open.
In Acapulco, he also played doubles with Italian star Flavio Cobolli, who had high praise for him.

Dimitrov and Cobolli won their opening match in doubles at the Mexican Open, beating the duo of Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinski.
They withdrew from their second-round match, however, after Dimitrov was knocked out in singles.
In an interview with Tennis TV, Cobolli said of his partner: “Playing with him is unbelievable. It’s such an honour.

“He’s one of my favourite players on the tour. I always ask him to be my coach when he stops [playing], because he’s very nice.
“He is trying to help me when he can, so it’s very nice to have him on the tour.”
The story of Flavio Cobolli’s 2026 season so far
Like Dimitrov, Cobolli has also endured an up-and-down start to the 2026 season.
Prior to his run at the Mexican Open, the world number 17 had tallied a win-loss record of 3-5, with early exits at three different tournaments.
Following his United Cup appearance, Cobolli crashed out in his opening matches at the Australian Open, the Montpellier Open and the Dallas Open.
Then, however, he made it to the semifinals of the Delray Beach Open before losing to eventual champion Sebastian Korda.
Cobolli has now made back-to-back semifinals in Acapulco, and he will face Miomir Kecmanovic for a place in the final.
