Jack Draper certainly didn’t have the return to tennis from the US Open that he wished for after losing to Felix Auger Aliassime in the Davis Cup.
Draper hasn’t had time to reflect on his US Open run, having reached the semi-finals of the Grand Slam earlier this month.
His Flushing Meadows dream was finally brought to an end by world number one Jannik Sinner, who went on to lift the trophy.
Sinner didn’t represent Italy at the Davis Cup group stages, but Draper did feature for Great Britain in Group D.
Draper missed the Davis Cup opener against Finland, which GB won 2-1, but was chosen by Leon Smith to play against Argentina.

But the British number one failed to repeat his US Open heroics in Manchester, losing to Francisco Cerundolo as GB lost 2-1.
That situation was then repeated against Canada, with Auger-Aliassime defeating Draper to help his nation overcome their opponents on home soil.
As per the Davis Cup website, the Canadian has now shared his verdict on the clash, saying: “High level, high intensity. Gave our best for ourselves and our countries.
“We had already qualified but Jack and I are trying our best to win and give it our best. I think we were both quite tired.”

The home crowd were deflated as Denis Shapovalov ended Great Britain’s chances of making the Davis Cup finals in November in the opening game.
He overcame Dan Evans 6-0 7-5, with the hosts having needed to win all of their matches to keep their chances alive.
But Draper and Auger-Aliassime still managed to put on a show, with the latter edging past the former 7-6(10-8) 7-5.
The Briton’s frustrations were evident early on, with Draper smashing his racket off the floor after losing the first set.
Auger-Aliassime certainly enacted his revenge on Draper, having controversially lost to the Briton in Cincinnati last month.
