Carlos Alcaraz is arriving at the US Open ready to try and win a Grand Slam for the third time in 2024.
The Spanish sensation has won the French Open and Wimbledon – but there had been some concerns for him going into the New York event.
Alcaraz has been thought to have been struggling with a problem with his ankle following the Olympics.
The youngster has had a welcomed break amid a tough schedule and now an update has been given on the player’s fitness.
The update comes from former Spanish professional Feliciano Lopez who has been sharing something that Alcaraz’s dad told him about his son.

Feliciano Lopez shares fitness update on Carlos Alcaraz
The former world number 12 shared this information on Sky Sports’ live coverage of the US Open which has started today.
Lopez has claimed that he’s been speaking to his dad and it came as a bit of a surprise to him that Alcaraz had been struggling.
He’s also shared how the Wimbledon champion is feeling ahead of the latest major of the year.
Lopez told Sky Sports: “Well, it’s not the ankle really, because he has his nail infected, so he was very careful of putting his foot down. That is the reason he twisted his ankle. But as far as I know, everything is fine now, he will be fine to play tomorrow.
“We were on the plane together from Madrid and as soon as we landed we found out about the ankle issue. Even his family were unaware, it was a bit of a surprise, but he’s fine now.”
Alcaraz will be dangerous despite injury at US Open
The Spaniard is only 21 and he will be capable of recovering from this injury and causing havoc at the US Open over the next couple of weeks.
Alcaraz isn’t the world number one but he’s very much the man to beat at Flushing Meadows over the next fortnight.
He’s showcased formidable form at the majors this year and he’s showcased exactly why he’s going to be a dominant force in tennis.
Alcaraz was unfortunate not to win gold at the Olympics and he will be keen not to go another tournament without a victory.
This update from Lopez is definitely good news and now it will be interesting to see if he’s feeling any ill-effects during his opening match at the US Open.
