Jannik Sinner booked his place in the Turin semifinals with a big win over Germany’s Alexander Zverev.

The defending champion defeated Zverev in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to make his way through to the last four.

He has now won 28 consecutive matches on indoor hard courts and hasn’t lost on the surface since before he won his maiden Grand Slam title.

Understandably delighted with the win, Sinner reflected on his performance during his on-court interview.

The world number one was impressed with his efforts against Zverev, as he explained the tactical changes the pair made for their third match in 17 days.

“Very, very competitive, very close match. I felt like I was serving very, very well in the important moments,” said Sinner.

“I tried to play the best tennis possible when it mattered, which, fortunately, today, it went my way.

“We both changed a little bit tactically. I felt like we were both trying to hit quite fast, quite flat.

“But I’m very happy with how I returned his serve, it’s very difficult, one of the best serves in the game.

“The group I’m in with Sascha [Zverev], with Ben [Shelton], it’s very difficult to return the serves, but I’m very happy, and let’s see what’s coming in the next round.”

Sinner was then asked whether he remembers his wins or losses more, after extending his indoor hard-court unbeaten streak to 28 matches.

“I remember both, but of course, the losses, you learn more, because you are more careful, you have more time to think about what you could have done differently,” he said.

“Of course, I do also remember the great moments, the nice moments, and I feel like it’s about balance.

“Trying to understand what I’m doing great and where I still have to work on things, but also, seeing today’s match, you have to play 100%, if not, it can very quickly go the other way.

“Sascha played great, great tennis today, and I’m very happy with how I handled today. It was a very close match.

“Very happy, but also very excited to be in the semis.”

Commenting on Sinner’s performance, former world number four Tim Henman weighed in with his thoughts on Sky Sports.

“It’s another really solid performance from [Jannik] Sinner to add to the collection. The win streak continues,” he said.

“He had his challenges from [Alexander] Zverev, seven break points to face, and he saved all seven. Zverev serving at an incredible 83% first serves, but a break in each set, 6-4, 6-3. Sinner too good again.”

Winning his first two matches, Sinner advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Finals for the third consecutive year.

Group ‘Bjorn Borg’ standings with one round of matches to play

While Sinner has qualified and Ben Shelton has been eliminated, there’s still a lot to play for in the Bjorn Borg Group.

Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime will play for a place in the semifinals of the ATP Finals on Friday, November 14.

After losing to Sinner in his opener, Auger-Aliassime took down Shelton to keep his semifinal hopes alive on Wednesday.

The Canadian has never reached the semifinals of the ATP Finals before, while Zverev, his upcoming opponent, is a former two-time champion.

In fact, of the eight players competing at this year’s tour finals, only Zverev and one other have experience lifting the trophy.

Only time will tell if anyone else can add their name to that list, or if it will be one of Sinner or Zverev winning the title on Sunday.

Zverev will take on Auger-Aliassime, and Sinner will play Shelton in the final round of group stage matches on Friday, November 14.
