Emma Raducanu continues her good form by reaching the next round of the Canadian Open.

The British number one aims to continue her fine form in Montreal following a run to the Washington D.C. semifinals.

Raducanu is searching for her first WTA title since her shock US Open victory as a qualifier back in 2021.

The 23-year-old is arguably looking the most steady and consistent she has been since that triumph at Flushing Meadows, and now she aims to set herself up for a strong run in Canada.

Emma Raducanu expresses her delight after beating Peyton Stearns at the Canadian Open

Emma Raducanu made a strong start to her round of 32 match against Peyton Stearns in Canada.

Two breaks of serve helped her claim the opening set, but double faults began to creep into Raducanu’s game and Stearns took advantage to break serve in set two.

But the world number 33 bounced back to level the set at 4-4 and proceeded to win the next two games to seal a 6-2, 6-4 victory, a scoreline identical to Raducanu’s win against Elene-Gabriela Ruse in the previous round.

Raducanu is now unbeaten in all three of her meetings against Stearns and she was pleased to win in straight sets and continue her momentum.

“I know Peyton is a really tough opponent. We have played two times in the past and always had really long matches. I am really happy with how I came through in that match,” Raducanu explained post-match.

“I kind of lost my focus a little bit, I felt, for some moments in the second set and she took advantage but very happy that I came through against a top opponent and happy to extend my stay here in Montreal.”

Emma Raducanu praises the crowd in Montreal after she reached the round of 32

Raducanu has shown her love for the summer North American hard court swing with her results at the Citi Open and her US Open triumph four years ago.

The support for the player was clear to see as she pointed out some British flags at the Canadian Open crowd.

Raducanu also mentioned that she was pleased to be back playing in Canada, her place of birth, before she moved to the UK at the age of two.

“I just want to say thank you, I see the Union Jack. I saw that at some clutch moments,” she added.

“I was actually born in Canada so to come back, so for me it means so much to be able to do well here and I’m very happy to be in the next round.”
