Carlos Alcaraz is continuing to build his legacy after defending his Roland Garros title.

Alcaraz saved three championship points to beat Jannik Sinner in a dramatic Roland Garros final, where he came from two sets to love down.

The Spaniard has received many messages of support since then, with Alcaraz congratulated by Coco Gauff among many other big names across the sporting world.

After Alcaraz won his fifth Grand Slam title at just 22 years old, Emma Raducanu’s coach Mark Petchey has made a comparison to Novak Djokovic.

Mark Petchey states what people ‘have to remember’ about Novak Djokovic

All of Alcaraz’s five Grand Slam title victories have involved some sort of jeopardy, with three of his five major final wins going to five sets.

This is something that the aforementioned Petchey pointed out on TNT Sports, but he claimed that it was not a big deal as 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic has also never won a major title without dropping a set.

“I think the one thing about Carlos that people get really wrapped up about is the fact that he drops sets,” said Petchey. “You have got to remember that Novak has never won a major without dropping a set.

“It’s not the biggest deal in the world. I also think it helps him in moments like that when he is two sets to love down. Because he is enjoying it.

“He kind of comes and goes but when he comes at you, like he does against Sinner at times, he is an unstoppable force. It keeps him relaxed whereas a lot of people are getting more tight, more exasperated and don’t really know what to do.

“But Carlos relaxes into himself and suddenly finds that gear that makes him untouchable. He is 22, the runway ahead of him is ridiculous when you think about it. He is 22 years old and what he has already achieved, I mean we could be talking about him breaking records which we think are untouchable.”

How many men have won a Grand Slam singles title without dropping a set?

While Alcaraz and Djokovic have not been able to win a Grand Slam title without dropping a set, five men have been able to since the turn of the Open Era.

One of those is the recently retired Rafael Nadal, who has won more Grand Slam titles without dropping a set than any other player.

All of Nadal’s dominant Grand Slam title victories came at Roland Garros, where he is a record 14-time champion.

The two other players that have won a Grand Slam singles title without dropping a set on multiple occasions are Bjorn Borg and Roger Federer.
