Emma Raducanu has admitted that something really surprised her during her match against Jessica Pegula at Eastbourne yesterday.

The Great Britain star takes on Daria Kasatkina this afternoon in the last eight and she will be looking to progress once again.

Raducanu has been slowly working towards this kind of performance this season and she sent the number two seed packing in three sets yesterday.

The talented youngster admitted after the match that something about her performance level had taken her by surprise.

Emma Raducanu shares what really surprised her during win over Jessica Pegula

Raducanu has finally done it. After a number of attempts, she’s finally got over the line against a player in the top 10 of the world rankings.

Pegula was beaten 6-4, 7-6, 7-5 and she now go into Wimbledon on the back of a last-16 defeat at this warm-up event.

Raducanu has admitted that the way she performed did surprise her and admitted she didn’t think she was capable of winning after saving a match point.

She said on the court after the win: “I’m pretty drained right now but thanks to everyone for getting me through some difficult moments in that match.

“It’s incredibly difficult when you play someone who is so in form but I’m pleased with how I was able to manage some difficult situations and I didn’t think to be honest I’d be able to get myself out of it.”

Raducanu hits form at the right time

Since winning the US Open in 2021, Raducanu has endured a rotten time of things with injuries.

After winning yesterday, she moved her cap in front of her face and got very emotional.

There has been a lot of rubbish written about Raducanu and where her priorities lie but this clearly shows she cares about being a professional player.

Raducanu has hit a bit of form at a lovely time with Wimbledon starting on Monday next week.

The 21-year-old will hope for a bit of fortune when the draw is made tomorrow and she has proved before that she can win a major title.

Raducanu has never gone beyond the fourth round and Wimbledon and after beating a top 10 player perhaps a quarter-final berth can beckon next week.
