Emma Raducanu has claimed that something really surprised her during her first-round win at the Australian Open.
She was speaking about her match on Eurosport.
So, what was it that surprised Raducanu so much during her opening match? Let’s take a look…
What surprised Emma Raducanu during Australian Open victory
The Great Britain star was in fine form as she beat Shelby Rogers comfortably in straight sets yesterday.
She looked composed during the 6-3, 6-2 victory and perhaps more importantly, showed no sign of her fitness breaking down.
It’s been a tough time for Raducanu and she hadn’t played in a Grand Slam since losing in the second round here last year.

After her impressive victory, she claimed that something surprised here out on the court.
Raducanu told Eurosport: “The number one thing [I have missed] is definitely the fans. I really felt that today. The support actually took me aback a little bit. I wasn’t expecting it. But I was loving every second of it and it really pushes you through in those tight moments. I was just so happy to interact with them at the end as well.”
Raducanu will hope to kick on at Australian Open
The 21-year-old will be back on court in the early hours of tomorrow morning against China’s Wang Yafan.
If she wins that clash she could set up a mouthwatering all Great Britain clash with Katie Boulter.
Raducanu is clearly appreciative of her fans and given that she always entertains out on court, it’s no surprise she had their backing.
The youngster defied the odds in 2021 by becoming the first female winner of a Grand Slam title since Virginia Wade.
Since then she’s endured rotten luck with a number of injuries and now she will hope to park all of that and get back on track.
After a comprehensive win over Rogers in round one, Raducanu should now have the confidence to kick on.
