Rafael Nadal is shortly going to sail off into the sunset and look back on a wonderful professional tennis career.

As one of the game’s most iconic figures of all time, Nadal will hope to bow out on a high by helping Spain win the Davis Cup this month.

There has been a lot of talk over whether or not Nadal will play singles at the event, with the Spaniard coy in Monday’s press conference.

Many players have reacted since Nadal announced his retirement with Frances Tiafoe and Andy Murray doing so in recent days.

It will be a sad day for tennis to lose another iconic figure from the game even if the time does feel right for Nadal to call it quits.

Injuries have hampered his progress this year and Nadal has never been the type of player to play tennis at anything other than 100 per cent.

Emma Raducanu shares what she noticed about Rafael Nadal ahead of the Davis Cup

Raducanu is back in good form after playing her first match for a little while in the Billie Jean King Cup against Canada.

Alongside Katie Boulter, the pair comfortably despatched their quarter-final opponents to set up a date with Slovakia in the semis.

Ahead of her most recent match, Raducanu was actually going through some training on a court next to Nadal.

She has shared what she noticed about the Spaniard ahead of the Davis Cup after getting the brilliant experience.

Raducanu said in her press conference: “Yeah, I actually practiced next to him yesterday, which was really cool. I was on the court next to him.

“He’s really cool. I mean, there are a lot of people around him, for sure, but even still, he said hi.

“He was really nice and polite and humble. It’s always great seeing him rip forehands. I can’t wait to watch him play.”

Spain can win the Davis Cup and give Nadal the send-off he deserves

With Italy boasting Jannik Sinner in their ranks, they will go into the competition as favourites for the title.

However, he might be fatigued after his exploits at the ATP Finals and that might open the door for Spain.

With Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in the team they can’t be overlooked and it things click they might go all the way.

It’s such a shame that Nadal is having to call time on his wonderful career.

He’s still looking fit but ultimately, it’s been a case of one injury too many during 2024 and he feels the time is right to call it quits.

Spain will be every neutral’s pick for this tournament and seeing Nadal bow out with a trophy raised in the air would give him everything he deserves ahead of retirement.
