Emma Raducanu has confirmed her withdrawal from Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament getting underway.
Raducanu had reportedly been spotted at the All England Club wearing an orthopaedic boot due to a right shin injury, but she was still expected to play in the event.
However, the WTA star has now confirmed her withdrawal from Wimbledon, just a day before she was set to take on Antonia Ruzic in round one.
Will Emma Raducanu ever win another Grand Slam title?
Emma Raducanu confirms Wimbledon withdrawal
Raducanu posted on her Instagram story: “Hi everyone, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but sadly I’ve had to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon.
“I’ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I’ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture and I’ve been medically advised to stop pushing through.
“Playing at Wimbledon, in front of a home crowd, means everything to me, so this is really difficult to process.
“I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement. Especially at a time like this, it is invaluable.
“I look forward to seeing you when I’m back.
“Emma.”
Wimbledon suffers huge blow with Emma Raducanu withdrawal
It’s a hugely disappointing update from Raducanu, who had found form heading into the event by reaching the final of Queen’s.
And not only does it represent a massive blow for the player herself, but also for the tournament and the British fans.

Many would have been eager to see the home favorite in action at SW19, hoping for a lengthy stay for the 23-year-old.
But it’s another negative for Raducanu, who has endured a simply horrendous time with injury during her relatively brief career so far.
It remains to be seen how long this current injury will keep her sidelined for, but hopefully she can make a speedy recovery.
