Emma Raducanu knows who she will play in her first match without Francisco Roig in her corner.

Raducanu had spoken positively about her time with Roig coming into the 2026 season, after the pair began working together in August last year.

However, it was clear that something was not right for the Briton after Raducanu lost in the second round of the Australian Open and spoke about not being happy with how she was playing.

This led to the official departure of Roig from her team, but Raducanu now has a golden opportunity at her first tournament without him.

Emma Raducanu’s draw for the Transylvania Open has been confirmed

Since Raducanu won the US Open in 2021, she has not won another title since, but that could all change over the coming week.

In her first tournament since the Australian Open, Raducanu has entered the WTA 250 event in Cluj-Napoca, where she is the top seed.

As the top seed at the Transylvania Open in Romania, Raducanu has been handed a seemingly positive draw.

This sees Raducanu, who will be joined by Alexis Canter as a temporary coach, playing world number 123 Greet Minnen in the first round.

Raducanu will also be the favorite for her second round match, as her potential opponents Kaja Juvan and Romanian wildcard Elena Ruxandra Bertea have a combined ranking of 403.

Some of the potential threats to Raducanu include Jaqueline Cristian, Sorana Cirstea, Xinyu Wang, Olga Danilovic and Anastasia Potapova, with the latter beating her at the Australian Open.

There is also the unseeded former world number one Karolina Pliskova in the other half of the draw to Raducanu.

This was just Raducanu’s second tournament after winning the US Open, but she was still yet to win a single match on the main WTA Tour.

Raducanu was able to get her first win on tour in Romania, where her father was born, after beating WTA title winner Polona Hercog in the first round.

The Briton also beat Ana Bogdan to reach the quarterfinals, where she fell to a straight sets defeat against Marta Kostyuk.

Raducanu will be looking to go one step further in 2026, with the Transylvania Open getting underway on Sunday, February 1.
