Emma Raducanu shared some kind words about British compatriot Andy Murray.
The 21-year-old is competing at the Eastbourne International this week where she will aim to get some more matches under her belt before making a third Wimbledon appearance.
Like many British players Bromley local has been inspired by Murray’s achievements in the game, which include two victories at the All-England Club.
Raducanu, who followed in Murray’s footsteps by winning the US Open in 2021, wants to see the 37-year-old grace the hallowed turf at SW19 at least one more time.
Emma Raducanu issued glowing assessment of Andy Murray
For years Murray dealt with the pressure of being not only the British number one but one of the world’s best players.
He bore the weight of expectation on his shoulders to deliver some success for British tennis which he did expertly throughout his career.
After her shock US Open win, Raducanu became an overnight superstar and experienced pressure of her own. But having Murray as an influence and inspiration has certainly helped her throughout her young career.
“Watching Andy at Wimbledon is so special,” she told reporters. “I just see him operate day to day, how professional he is, how he’s in the gym an hour and a half before practice, how he goes about his thing.
“It’s just nice to have that influence. He sets really good stands and all of us love to have him around. It’s nice to also see him hitting with the other boys and the other players. I think they all get really inspired when they play with him too.”

Emma Raducanu aims to build momentum ahead of Wimbledon
In addition to her comments on Murray, Raducanu spoke about where her game is at ahead of a return to Wimbledon. She has not played at the All-England Club since a second round loss to France’s Caroline Garcia in 2022.
Raducanu produced some encouraging performances in Nottingham where she reached the semi-finals, and a rekindled love and hunger for the sport bodes well for the player ahead of the grass court Grand Slam.
“I really feel in a lot better spirits on and off the court,” she added. “And I think that it’s just showing in my practices and it’s showing in my day to day. I think I’m a lot brighter and bubblier.
“I’m just happy and I like figuring out the challenges because I know there are inevitably going to be some. Just working through that.”
