Emma Raducanu advanced to the third round of the Italian Open in Rome after defeating Jil Teichmann in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

It was a commanding victory for the Briton, who is in search of her second career singles title in the Eternal City.

Raducanu won her first-round match against Australian Maya Joint, marking her second win of the clay season in a closely contested three-set bout.

The former US Open champion’s second-round match at the Italian Open was much quicker, however, disposing of Teichmann in 82 minutes.

Raducanu was in the driving seat the entire match, and said a tweak to one of her shots played a big part in her dominance.

Emma Raducanu says she has made ‘tweaks’ to her serve at the Italian Open

Speaking after her victory, the 22-year-old told Sky Sports: “I think if you look at my serve now compared to Australia and the Middle East, even Miami. I changed after Miami and did some tweaks and it’s a completely different motion.”

“I am trying to make it a bit more fluid and a bit longer and hopefully it is more robust under pressure, but it is by no means the finished product.”

“I feel like there is so much room to grow it. But I think this way I can maximise the potential on it.”

Raducanu won 73% of points on her first serve and tallied 72% on her second serve, having averaged 57% and 52% respectively at the Miami Open.

Emma Raducanu says she still doesn’t feel comfortable on clay at the Italian Open

Despite two wins in a row on the dirt, Raducanu thinks there are still ways to go with her clay court game.

The world number 49 said: “I still don’t really feel comfortable but in a way I guess it helps me because I have to be super focused on every single point just to get my feet right and try and not fall over.”

“It is a big challenge and the points are long and the balls do get heavier. When I was serving it out it was getting slower and slower, so it’s physical but I think I am slowly finding my feet.”

Raducanu is in the same quarter of the draw as Coco Gauff, who emerged victorious in her opening match.

The Briton will face Veronika Kudermetova in the third round, whom she has never played before.
