Emma Navarro has broken new ground in 2024 after reaching the Monterrey Open quarter-finals.
Navarro chose to continue her fine campaign in Mexico in what will be her final attempt to get some more matches under her belt ahead of the US Open.
The American has registered her best performance at the first three Grand Slams of the year this season and she is keen to achieve that feat in New York.
Emma Navarro had to work hard to win her first match in Mexico but she came through in three sets to keep her chances of winning a second WTA Tour title alive.
What new record did Emma Navarro set at the Monterrey Open?
Navarro’s resilience was tested in her victory over Colombia’s Camila Osorio at the Monterrey Open.
This win means that Navarro now has 17 victories from 25 three-set matches on the WTA tour this season, which is more than any other player.
The tournament’s second seed started slowly as Osorio took the opening set, but Navarro came roaring back. She took set two to level the match and broke serve in the decider to serve for the match at 5-4.
But the fiercely competitive Osorio kept her hopes of victory alive by breaking back and the third set progressed to a tiebreak.
Navarro made no mistake as she dominated the tiebreak and sealed a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(2) win after two hours and 48 minutes.

Who will Emma Navarro play next?
Navarro set up a Monterrey Open quarter-final clash with ninth-seed Magdalena Frech.
The Polish player defeated Lina Glushko in three sets to reach this stage of the WTA 500 event.
This will be the third meeting with Navarro and each player has one victory each. Their first match took place in the opening round of the 2022 US Open, which Frech won 7-6(10), 1-6, 6-2.
They did not play each other again until the last 16 at the Hobart International, which Navarro claimed 6-3, 6-3. She went on to defeat Elise Mertens and claim the first WTA title of her career.
