Diego Schwartzman is set to retire from tennis in 2025 after over a decade on the ATP Tour.
Schwartzman, 32, reached a career-high of eighth in the world and reached the semi-finals of the 2020 French Open.
At 5ft7 the Argentine is one of the shortest players on the ATP Tour and had to fight long and hard for each of his four singles titles.
Schwartzman has struggled for form in recent years, and currently sits outside the world’s top 300, having failed to win a main draw match in 2024.
The 32-year-old announced earlier this year that he intends to retire after next year’s Argentina Open, his home tournament.
The Argentine has been a very popular figure on the ATP tour, but he may not always have been the biggest fan of some of his fellow players.
Diego Schwartzman says there is an American player he really disliked on the ATP Tour
Schwartzman appeared on the Nothing Major podcast and was asked whether there were any players that he disliked on the ATP Tour.
“Yeah. I will not say the names,” he said.
“But French guys, I was like come on. I see these guys every week and they would say nothing.
“Not even hello or good morning. Some respect.
“I don’t want to be your friend, not even close to being your friend, but we are sharing the locker[room], just say hello.”
The 32-year-old went on to hint at a specific player he didn’t get along with.
“There is one American guy who is like this, maybe you know who it is,” he said.
“This guy I beat two times.
“He is doing well.”
Whilst Schwartzman didn’t directly say who he was talking about, there aren’t many Americans he has beaten twice.

Diego Schwartzman says which ATP players he ‘owned’
Schwartzman was also asked whether or not there were any players that he ‘owned’ on the ATP Tour.
“I had a few,” he said.
“[Alejandro] Davidovich Fokina, [Lorenzo] Musetti, [Marton] Fucsovics.
“A few players I beat too many times, like three or four times.”
Whilst Schwartzman may have had his fair share of success against the likes of Davidovich Fokina and Musetti, he also holds some pretty unwanted head-to-heads.
The Argentine trails 7-0 against Novak Djokovic, 11-1 against Rafael Nadal, and 4-0 against Roger Federer.
Schwartzman’s final tournament, the Argentina Open begins on 10 February 2025.
