Daniil Medvedev is back on the court tonight when he faces the man who conquered Rafael Nadal in the form of Jiri Lehecka.

Tonight’s quarter-final promises to be a fine clash between two players who are bang in form.

Medvedev defeated Alexander Bublik to set up the meeting with Lehecka and both players will have their eyes on the prize.

The 28-year-old has won 20 career titles and two years ago he sat on top of the world rankings.

In terms of majors, Medvedev has had a number of near misses, losing in three Australian Open finals but he has managed to win the US Open.

Now, ahead of tonight’s game against Lehecka at the Madrid Open, Medvedev has shared what he saw his opponents do in practice.

Daniil Medvedev shares what he noticed about Jiri Lehecka in practice

Well, it would appear that the Russian player believes he will have to be on top form to despatch Lehecka tonight.

Before the Czech player knocked out Nadal, Medvedev oversaw one of his practice sessions and it’s fair to say he liked what he saw.

He told The Tennis Letter: “I am interested to see how it is today.

“I played Jiri in practice here before the tournament. He was playing some big tennis.

“Naturally, I’m super interested to see how it goes. Let’s see. I will be ready.”

Medvedev will be craving more silverware this year

At 28-years-old, Medvedev should be approaching his prime and he will want to win more silverware this year.

The player’s best performance at the French Open was a quarter-final in 2021 and clay hasn’t always been his friend.

Now, he’s improved on the surface though and perhaps he can be one to watch during the rest of the clay season.

Medvedev is one of a clutch of players who will fancy going all the way every time they rock up at a tournament.

With that in mind, he will hope to get far in the Madrid Open and a win tonight would see him reach the last four of a tournament again this season.

Winning 20 titles is no mean feat given his age but now Medvedev will want to win more of the big ones.

In order to do that he must focus when it comes to these kind of tournaments in Madrid and a win this evening could set him up for a big few days.
