Daniil Medvedev has not played a match since he was beaten 6-0, 6-0 at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Medvedev reached the Indian Wells final last month, having become the first person to beat Carlos Alcaraz in 2026 in doing so.
The former world number one has only won one match since then, and Medvedev is yet to win a single game on clay so far this year.
Medvedev was stunned by Matteo Berrettini at the Monte Carlo Masters, losing 6-0, 6-0 for the first time in his career, and he has now revealed how long it took for him to get over it.

Daniil Medvedev took a week to get over ‘humiliating’ 6-0, 6-0 defeat
Medvedev is gearing up to play his first tournament since his crushing defeat to Berrettini at the Madrid Open, and he has now spoken to Russian outlet Bolshe about how he felt after this loss.
The former US Open champion explained how defeats can be difficult for different reasons, before Medvedev admitted that it took him about a week to fully get over his loss to Berrettini.
Is Daniil Medvedev the best player in the world other than Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner now?
If not, who do you consider to be ahead of him?
“Any loss in tennis, no matter what kind, is always tough for various reasons,” said Medvedev. “Some might undermine your confidence, if it’s in the first round and you lost in three to an opponent that you feel you should have beaten that can really undermine your confidence for the next tournaments.
“Sometimes when you play very well, for example when I lost to [Jannik] Sinner it was painful because it was a final. I could have lifted the trophy and won Indian Wells which I’ve never won before, that’s also frustrating. Not in terms of tennis or your confidence, but purely in terms of the result and 6-0, 6-0 is no exception.
“You feel bad because of the humiliation, because losing 6-0, 6-0 is humiliating, but that’s life, that’s sports. I’m not the first, I won’t be the last. In tennis or other sports, those days happen.
“Of course for a few days it was hard, I would say for probably a week it was tough just to get back into the rhythm and understand what to do next.
“But then again, if there were another tournament soon it wouldn’t have taken me a week. I knew the next tournament wasn’t soon, so we calmly got out of that state, we practiced well and now I’m playing better.”

Who is Daniil Medvedev playing at the Madrid Open?
Medvedev will look to return to form at the Madrid Open, a tournament where he has never surpassed the quarterfinals in his six previous appearances.
Last year, Medvedev lost in the quarterfinals to Casper Ruud, who went on to win the Madrid Open title.

Medvedev receives a bye to the second round as the seventh seed this year, where he will play against Hungarian Fabian Marozsan.
He should be feeling confident ahead of this match, as Medvedev has won all three of his previous meetings against Marozsan.
Some of the potential threats to Medvedev in his half of the Madrid Open draw include Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Flavio Cobolli.
