Daniil Medvedev has continued his campaign at the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championships after beating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Medvedev is a former champion at the Dubai Tennis Championships, having won the tournament two years ago.
However, the 29-year-old has struggled for form in recent months and has not won a title since the 2023 Italian Open.
The world number six was able to reach the quarter-finals in Doha last week, but Medvedev had to retire due to illness.

During his second round win over the big serving Mpetshi Perricard, there was a moment of contention on a break point for Medvedev.
As the Frenchman approached the net, it was unclear as to whether he had touched it before winning the point.
This is something that Medvedev called out in his press conference, after the video review system was unable to check to see if Mpetshi Perricard had actually touched the net.
While Medvedev suggested that he didn’t believe that his opponent had, the former world number one drew reference to a fine that he received at the Australian Open last month.
“I have one thing to say,” Medvedev said in his post-match press conference. “So in the Australian Open I got fined like for 60 thousand (dollars) for the camera, because it was actually not a GoPro, which I didn’t know. So I get a fined like 60 thousand, which was a big amount but well you know I can understand, the rules are rules.
“But today happened that I don’t think he touched, but we have the video review. Well if you touch, I win the point and win the break, huge, so I am like okay show it. And then there is this camera for $60,000 that doesn’t show it, so I’m like what is it doing there?
“And basically when I broke it in Australian Open, in my opinion it should not even be there, like it’s a net don’t put a camera in the net. And now, so I am asking a question to everyone, what does this 60k camera do in there if you cannot show if he touched the net or not? Thank you.”
In response to the footage of his press conference, Medvedev joked that he wanted a refund from his recent fine.
Why was Daniil Medvedev fined at the Australian Open?
Medvedev lost to Learner Tien at the Australian Open, in his earliest exit from the Melbourne major since 2018.
The three-time former finalist also struggled in the first round, with Medvedev coming from behind to beat the then ranked world number 418, Kasidit Samrej, in five sets.
Things boiled over in the third set of that match when Medvedev hit the net with his racket and broke the installed camera.
As a result, Medvedev expected to receive a fine and has now revealed that it was in the region of $60,000.
Medvedev is not the only person to have got himself in recent trouble, with Alexander Zverev also at risk of a fine following his actions in Acapulco.
