Once again, the clay court season is upon professional tennis with huge honours to be won over the next few months.

All eyes will be on Carlos Alcaraz as he gears up towards the defence of the French Open crown, which he won for the first time in 2024.

With Jannik Sinner set to return from his ban at the ATP event in Rome, it will also be fascinating to see what sort of shape he is in when that moment does arrive.

The clay season is always intriguing and it would appear that from the men’s game perspective, there are a number of subplots emerging.

The likes of Joao Fonseca and Learner Tien are hoping to continue showing the future is bright, whilst the United States will hope one of their players can go all the way and finally win a Grand Slam once again.

Daniil Medvedev hasn’t started 2025 in the best of form and he’s been asked who he thinks might be successful in the three big clay tournaments before the French Open gets underway.

Daniil Medvedev predicts if Jannik Sinner will win the Rome Masters

Sinner accepting a three-month ban hasn’t been received well by some players and pundits associated with the ATP Tour.

Many, with Nick Kyrgios leading the attack, have claimed that the punishment should have been more severe and i t’s a debate that will likely rumble on.

Medvedev has been asked to predict who he thinks will win the three forthcoming events in Madrid, Rome and Monte Carlo, with Sinner returning at his home ATP event.

He told the Monte Carlo Masters official YouTube: “Easy – I make the triple Masters and finish it off with Roland Garros, the cherry on the top!

“I don’t always like these predictions because I still want to win and I managed to win Rome one time but if I don’t win, I would say Monte Carlo, is Carlos playing? I did not see him here yet, where is he? But I would go with Carlos in Madrid, I think it suits his game well there, he can play well. Rome, I wonder how Jannik comes back. But let’s go for Zverev, he likes to win there, I feel like maybe once, two or three times.

“And then Monte Carlo, Stefanos. He cannot lose here! I don’t know why but he’s won three out of four years.”

Jannik Sinner will remain the man to beat after three-month ban

Sinner is still comfortably the number one player in the world and he will be aiming to pick up where he left off.

The Italian is showcasing unbelievable form and choosing his home ATP event to make a return might just be a masterstroke from his perspective.

Medvedev shouldn’t be ruled out, though. His 2025 hasn’t got off to a flyer but as they say, form is temporary and class is permanent.

All eyes will be on Sinner when he does return but for Monte-Carlo and Madrid, others will be in the mix, with Alcaraz likely to be the favourite for both events.

Sinner’s return feels intriguing and it will be fascinating to see how tennis fans perceive him following his ban.
