Daniil Medvedev was shocked in the second round of the Australian Open in 2025.
The 2025 tennis season hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts for Medvedev as he lost in the second round at Melbourne Park.
Medvedev fell to Learner Tien in a five-set thriller, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1, 6-7, on Margaret Court Arena.
The Russian had already been involved in a war at the 2025 Australian Open, as he scraped past Thai qualifier Kasidit Samrej in five sets in round one.
It was the first tournament Medvedev had attended this year, missing the early weeks of the season to be present for the birth of his second child.
Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, Medvedev has made a big change in a bid to get back to winning ways.

The Open 13 event in Marseille, France, has awarded Medvedev a Wild Card to play in their ATP 250 tournament later in February.
“Daniil Medvedev will be present at the Open 13 Provence from February 10-16, 2025,” the event announced on X.
His presence in the south of France adds to a packed schedule, that will see the former US Open champion play in more tournaments next month than any other member of the top ten.

The Russian will play an ATP tournament every week this February, as he looks to build his ranking back up after a disappointing Australian Open.
Medvedev is currently ranked seventh in the world, and could drop over 1,000 points in March, thanks to his performances at the Sunshine Double last year.
If results were to go against him, he could find himself ranked outside the world’s top 15 before too long, perhaps a strong motivator for him to get back competing as often as he can.
Medvedev last won a tour-level title 619 days ago at the Italian Open, but will be the heavy favorite in Marseille next month.

The 28-year-old is set to be the only top-ten player competing at the event, and will certainly fancy his chances of picking up a first ATP title since 2023.

The win that has arguably aged the best was his quarter-final triumph over Jannik Sinner, who is the current world number one.
It was his second win in two years at the event against the Italian, having beaten him in the last 16 in 2020.
He then advanced to the final with a comfortable win over Matthew Ebden, before taking down home favorite Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Medvedev lifted the trophy after three sets of gruelling action in Marseille, becoming an ATP champion for a tenth time.
The Russian star will no doubt hope to repeat that success this time around when the Open 13 gets underway on February 10.
