Daniil Medvedev is in tremendous form at the moment, having just made it to the final of an ATP Masters 1000 tournament for the first time since 2024.
Medvedev reached the championship match at the Indian Wells Open after defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals.
The Russian took on Jannik Sinner for the title and forced the Italian to two tiebreaks, but failed to get over the line.
Is Daniil Medvedev the best player in the world other than Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner now?
If not, who do you consider to be ahead of him?
With his run in ‘Tennis Paradise’, Medvedev re-entered the ATP top ten after being outside it since June last year.
His performance at the tournament proved he is still one of the world’s very best, but the 30-year-old believes he exceeded expectations.

Daniil Medvedev speaks ahead of campaign at the Miami Open
In an interview with Tennis TV, Medvedev said: “Tennis is such a sport that I tend to forget really fast what happened before.
“Of course, Indian Wells is just a fresh memory. So this I remember, and it’s great for confidence.
“Sometimes you lose a tournament in the first round, so then you have a lot of time to practice and prepare the next one.
“So you go like one weekend advance to get ready used to the courts, but when you are low in confidence, it doesn’t help you at all.
Who are you backing to complete the sunshine double?
Or do you think both Sabalenka and Sinner will win the Miami Open?
“Here, [it’s] the other way around, like yesterday was rainy, so I had my first hit today, which is, you know, some will say, three days after the tournament in Indian, I’ll have only two days to prepare, but it was great.
“You know, when you’re high on confidence, everything goes in, everything is fluid. Dubai also helped with this, but the tournament itself, you tend to forget it really fast, so probably after I play Miami, it’s clay season, so I’m not going to remember Indian Wells.
“So it was great. In a way [I was] probably exceeding expectations but also at the same time I always said I know that when I play my best tennis like I did in Indian Wells, I can beat anyone.
“But also it’s tough to beat me, and even though Jannik beat me, it was not an easy match, so I just hope to continue this way in Miami.”

Daniil Medvedev’s poor run at last year’s Miami Open
Medvedev will be hoping for a much better result at this year’s edition of the Miami Open, following a disappointing run last season.
The 2023 champion endured a largely poor season in 2025, and at the second ATP Masters 1000 event of the tournament, he crashed out in his opening match.
After receiving a bye, seeded seventh, Medvedev lost to Spanish star Jaume Munar in straight sets.
Munar handed Medvedev a heavy defeat, winning 6-2, 6-3 before losing in the next round to Gael Monfils.
Medvedev won his fifth Masters crown at the Miami Open in 2023, when he beat Sinner in the final to hold the trophy aloft.
