Iga Swiatek’s 2026 campaign has not gone to plan thus far, with the former world number one’s form continuing to falter.
She has not looked likely to win a title of any description, and continues to suffer shock defeats to players she would have comfortably beaten two or three years ago.
It has been a sad and slow fall for Iga Swiatek, but fortunately, she still has time to turn things around.
Danielle Collins, despite having had high-profile arguments with the 24-year-old, has now offered her measured assessment of her form.
Danielle Collins assesses Iga Swiatek’s current form
Speaking on Tennis Channel, the American was keen to add crucial context to Swiatek’s struggles.
Collins called for calm, noting: “Look, she’s a former Grand Slam champion now multiple times, and former world number one, when she’s on, she’s the best in the world.
Where do you think she will be ranked?
“We know, so with her success, I wouldn’t panic too much over this.
“I think, maybe not having enough practice leading up to this event maybe got into her head a little bit, and Linette, nothing to lose.
“So it was just a little bit of an unfortunate timing, I think.”
Rennae Stubbs was not so kind in her assessment, pointing out what Swiatek is doing on court which she doesn’t like.
Where is Iga Swiatek ranked now?
Despite her struggles this year, Swiatek has not really tumbled down the rankings like some might indicate.
In fact, she still remains one of the top-ranked players in the world, sitting third, only behind Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.
Which WTA player would benefit the most from playing best-of-five sets?
However, that could all change in the coming months when the clay-court season kicks off, given that it should be the surface where she succeeds the most.
That was not the case last year though, rather surprisingly failing to win a single title during that swing.
This should represent a huge opportunity to reclaim the second spot ahead of having to defend title points at Wimbledon.
