Dan Evans assessed Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper’s chances of lifting the Wimbledon title in their careers.

Andy Murray ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a male Wimbledon winner in 2013 and claimed the title again three years later.

On the other hand, no British woman has lifted the Venus Rosewater dish since Virginia Wade defeated Betty Stöve in 1977.

As the current British number ones, both Draper and Raducanu are best positioned to bring success to the home fans, but with stiff competition on both the ATP and WTA Tour, it will not be easy.

Dan Evans says if Jack Draper or Emma Raducanu can ever win Wimbledon

The British winners of the Wimbledon Championships have been few and far between.

Murray was the first British man since Fred Perry in the 1930s to win the title, while no woman has tasted victory at Wimbledon for 48 years.

In the current game, Jack Draper has positioned himself as the world number four and he already has a Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open to his name.

Emma Raducanu knows what it takes to win a major after her success at Flushing Meadows in 2021. That being said, Dan Evans thinks both players have the ability to succeed at Wimbledon and make more British tennis history.

“Winning Wimbledon took 77 years. Jack Draper has the ability to win Wimbledon, there’s no doubt about that. He has the serve and he has the game. Will he do it? It’s impossible to answer that at the minute,” Evans told BBC Sounds.

“But he has the biggest chance out of any of the Brits right now obviously. I can see Emma maybe winning it. I think she is starting to get there on the grass.”

What does Dan Evans think of the young British tennis players?

Evans is now 35 years of age and he is the one of elder statesmen in British tennis.

Therefore he is keen to see the next generation of players carry British tennis forward, and he shared his thoughts on those players, including British number two Jacob Fearnley.

“Fearnley has a quarter in him quite easily and if the draw is right you never know what can happen once you’re in the quarters,” Evans said. “Henry Searle has a long way to go but he has a dangerous game. The women are on a really good track at the minute I feel.

“Mimi Xu was just on court and does not look out of place at these events and that is pretty impressive. She looks really comfortable. The team she has around her. She has Nigel Sears in her box, which is a top, top women’s coach who has coached many top 10 players.

“Hannah Klugman, Mika [Stojsavljevic] has won the US Open juniors. That is a group of three who should be really excited about, which the LTA are, but they have to keep on the right path.

“It’s not about this moment, it’s about four or five years time and keep improving, keep doing the stuff you need to do and I think you could easily see one of those three in the semi of Wimbledon in a few years. They are on the right track.”
