Predictions for the 2025 Dallas Open
With the Dallas Open becoming an ATP 500 tournament for the first time in 2025, our team of expert writers at The Tennis Gazette deliver their predictions for who will win big in Texas.
George Patten: “An ATP 500 event for the first time in 2025, the Dallas Open is stacked with talent and provides a worthy stateside alternative to the Rotterdam Open.
“ATP top-10 stars Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud and Tommy Paul will be the big favorites to take home the Dallas Open trophy alongside Australian Open semi-finalist Ben Shelton. However, among the American contingent in Texas, it may well be a Czech star who rises to the top.
“Tomas Machac gave Fritz a great game at the United Cup earlier this year and while he wasn’t able to test Novak Djokovic in Melbourne, he could produce a shock or two in America.
“The 24-year-old is yet to win a title on the ATP Tour, but fans shouldn’t be too surprised to see Machac do so for the first time in Dallas.”
Matthew Johns: “It is a big year for the Dallas Open, having been upgraded from an ATP 250 to an ATP 500 level event. That appears to have attracted a higher caliber of players, including five ranked inside the top 20!
“Tommy Paul won the Dallas Open title last year, and it feels likely that another American will be lifting the trophy again.
“Despite having a poor Australian Open, top seed Taylor Fritz would have to be my pick as he is very reliable at these sort of tournaments – hence his ranking of world number four.
“Don’t count out Ben Shelton, though, who will be riding on a high after his run to the Australian Open semi-finals and loves playing in front of the American crowds.”
Peter Lynch: “There is an endless array of American talent to choose from, with Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton certain to impress, but I think young star Alex Michelsen can continue from where he left off at the Australian Open and come out on top in Dallas.”
