Coco Gauff won the French Open last year, doubling her Grand Slam tally, but there’s still plenty of work to do.
The 21-year-old’s serve was the topic of conversation for much of the 2025 season.
Gauff even hired a biomechanics expert to fix the problem, having served a concerning number of double faults in the lead-up to the US Open.

The issue persists, however, and Gauff will need to sort it out soon if she wants to progress further.
Unfortunately for Gauff, that’s not the only problem with her game.
During the latest episode of ‘Off Court with Greg‘, former world number four Greg Rusedski highlighted the two issues Gauff needs to work on.

“Second serve is so important,” said Rusedski.
“So I would say work on the second serve with better accuracy.

“Forehand as well, when players go in with pace, she can’t change the direction up the line because of the extreme grip, so those are the two areas with Coco [Gauff].”
After noting areas of her game she can improve, Rusedski was quick to point out one of Gauff’s best attributes.
“But one thing that impresses me about her, her mentality is second to none,” he said.
“We saw that at Roland Garros when she won the title, and her physicality, unbelievable mover around the court.

“So during the off-season, I really hope those two areas are cleaned up.
“Because if she wants to be one of the greats of the game, which she has the possibility to be, you have to keep on getting better.”

Gauff is a long way from being recognised as one of the greats, but she’s certainly on the right path, with two Grand Slams to her name at 21.
The American has won 22 titles during her career so far, and would love nothing more than to add a second United Cup to her trophy cabinet in 2026…

Gauff and Taylor Fritz weren’t at their best in the group stages, but that didn’t stop them from booking their places in the last eight.

They’ll play Greece in the quarterfinals, who, like the Americans, went unbeaten in their group.

Gauff will kick off the quarterfinal tie against Maria Sakkari, who took down former Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu in her previous two matches.
If Gauff is to beat Sakkari, she’ll need to be a lot better than she was in her previous match.
Gauff lost to Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 1-6, 7-6, 0-6.
Only time will tell who will emerge victorious in Team USA’s quarterfinal tie with Greece, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action.
The Americans will take on Greece on Wednesday, January 7.
If they are to win, Team USA will meet either Australia, Poland, or Germany in the United Cup semifinals on Saturday, January 10.
