Coco Gauff dismantled Iga Swiatek as she booked her place in the Madrid Open final.

For the American to reach the championship match in the Spanish capital for the first time, she had to defeat the defending champion on clay for the first time.

She did just that as Gauff took just one hour and four minutes to defeat Swiatek for the loss of just two games.

Fans were left stunned at the ease of which Coco Gauff was able to claim victory, which was her fourth against Swiatek and third in a row.

What did Coco Gauff notice about Iga Swiatek’s performance at the Madrid Open?

Gauff was very steady in her Madrid Open semi-final, as she fired 18 winners and committed just four unforced errors.

On the other hand, an erratic Iga Swiatek hit an alarming 21 unforced errors to just seven winners in Madrid.

She also won just 35% of first serve points and failed to create any break points on Gauff‘s serve, which was imperious throughout the contest.

Following Gauff’s 6-1, 6-1 victory she assessed her opponent’s performance and where the Pole fell short in their 15th meeting.

“I think really the first maybe three or four games, maybe six games, in the match I was really solid off the ground and I felt that she maybe felt that she didn’t have the solution on that day,” Gauff told Tennis Channel.

“Maybe she was not playing her best, so she was just trying to get a rhythm and sometimes I try and do that too when you’re not playing, just go for some shots. But I think today was just a good day at the office for me.”

Who will Coco Gauff face in the Madrid Open final

Gauff now has the opportunity to play for her first WTA 1000 clay court title after producing one of the best performances of the season.

She now has a chance to regain the World number two ranking on Sunday and Gauff is pleased with how her performances have improved round by round in Madrid.

“Honestly, I just felt good out there on the court and the last few matches, even though my first round started off tough, I think it made me match ready,” Gauff added.

“Maybe it wasn’t her best tennis but for me I was really happy with how I served today. And then off the ground I felt good out there.”

On Sunday Gauff will take on Aryna Sabalenka for the Madrid Open title in what will be their first meeting in a final since the 2023 US Open, when Gauff came from a set down to win her first Grand Slam.
