Coco Gauff sends her first social media message days after exiting the US Open

Coco Gauff’s pursuit of a third major title at the US Open came to a halt after bowing out in the fourth round to Naomi Osaka.

Gauff suffered a straight-sets defeat to Osaka at Flushing Meadows, in what marked the end of her first Grand Slam campaign under the wing of her new coach.

Ahead of her run in New York, the American had appointed Gavin MacMillan, a biomechanics specialist, who implemented a new service motion into her game.

Though Gauff was able to defend points by matching her finish from 2024 alongside MacMillan, she could not find an answer for the Japanese star.

Days after her loss to Osaka, the 21-year-old has broken her silence on social media to send a message to her fans.

Gauff lost to the four-time Grand Slam champion for the first time since the Cincinnati Open in 2021.

In a post on Instagram, she said: “Thank you, NYC, we keep building.”

The head-to-head record between Gauff and Osaka is now three wins apiece, with the rivalry dating back to 2019, when they met each other for the first time at the US Open.

Since then, the world number three trails her conqueror at majors 2-1, having clinched a victory over her at the Australian Open in 2020.

Gauff struggled in her first-round matchup at the 2025 US Open against Ajla Tomljanovic, narrowly beating the Australian in three sets.

Her clash in round two with Donna Vekic saw the two-time major winner brought to tears during a changeover after she was broken in the first set.

She ultimately came out on top against Vekic and followed it up with a largely comfortable win over Magdalena Frech.

In the round of 16, however, she was met with a red-hot Osaka, who looks to have returned to the level that saw her lift Grand Slam titles.
