Coco Gauff is a woman on a mission at the Miami Open, with the American having stormed into the round of 16.

Gauff beat Sofia Kenin 6-0, 6-0 in the second round of the Miami Open, having received a bye in round one.

The WTA number three then overcame Maria Sakkari in round three, with third seed Gauff beating the 28th seed 6-2, 6-4.

She now takes on Magda Linette in the last 16 of the WTA 1000 event, having lost at that stage of Indian Wells earlier this month.

Linette meanwhile started her bid for Miami Open success in the first round, where she overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Coco Gauff picks another Grand Slam title or becoming WTA number one

The Pole has since beaten both 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and Linda Fruhvirtova to set up a clash with Gauff.

And along with focusing on her latest win, the latter was asked in her latest press conference if she would rather have another major title or become world number one.

“Another major,” Gauff replied. “I’ve always said… I don’t know, I feel like people remember you more off majors than world number one ranking.

“Obviously if you could have both, that’s great. I think for me in my personal, especially with only having one, I would like to have another.

“Now, if I had like four and I hadn’t reached number one, then that maybe would be a different story. But only having one, I would like to have another one just to cement myself even more.”

Gauff clinched her one and only Grand Slam title to date on home soil, superbly winning the US Open in 2023.

She has since won the WTA Finals, but the American has only managed to reach as high as second place in the world rankings.

But Gauff is only 21, and undoubtedly has a fantastic chance of reaching the pinnacle of women’s tennis at some point in her career.

For now, however, she is simply enjoying her success in Miami, having also been asked if she was really relaxed and having fun in her latest match.

“Yeah, 100%,” she said. “That was the goal today, was to go out there and have fun on the court. That’s what I feel like, that’s how I’m playing.”

And when it was noted that her shots seemed free and she was trying different shots, she said: “Yeah. I was just trying to be loose out there. I think in the past, there’s a little bit of pressure playing home.

“But I feel like because, I don’t know, I feel like I play my best tennis when I’m playing relaxed and playing loose. I think that’s what I was trying to emulate today.”
