Coco Gauff pinpoints the shot in her game she thinks has really improved recently

Coco Gauff is enjoying her best tournament run of the season at this year’s Miami Open, and is now through to the final.

Gauff dominated Karolina Muchova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to book her place in the championship match at the WTA 1000 event.

The American will take on world number one Aryna Sabalenka for the title, against whom she is tied six apiece in the head-to-head.

So far this season, Gauff’s results have been up and down, with lengthy runs in Melbourne and Dubai, but early exits in Doha and Indian Wells.

Gaining consistency is a big goal for the two-time major champion, which she touched on after beating Muchova.

In her post-match press conference, Gauff was asked if she thinks her career is always going to be streaky results wise.

She responded: “I don’t know if that’s going to be my career or not. One of the goals was to be more consistent, and I definitely have had some tough matches this year, for sure, but it’s better than last year.

“If you look at both years result wise, it’s better. I think it just comes with growing my game and trying to make my game more sound.

“I feel like the improvements are happening, especially with my forehand. I was really happy with how that has been this whole tournament.

“I said earlier this year that I felt like I was practicing well and just waiting for it to click. I don’t think it’s fully clicked yet, but I think it is clicking.”

It has not been totally plain sailing at this year’s Miami Open for Gauff, who had to come back from a set down in her first two matches at the tournament.

She managed to claw her way back into the contest against Elisabetta Cocciaretto in round one and Alycia Parks in round two.

Her third and fourth round matches against Sorana Cirstea and Belinda Bencic also went the distance, but Gauff prevailed in both with three-set victories.

Gauff’s triumph over Muchova in the semifinals was the first convincing win for her at the tournament, with the match lasting an hour and 29 minutes.
