Coco Gauff has expressed her desire to win the Miami Open after reaching the quarterfinals.
Gauff defeated Sorana Cirstea in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament, which followed her victories over Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Alycia Parks.
The American is chasing her 12th career title at the Miami Open, and the first of her somewhat frustrating 2026 season so far.
Two Grand Slam titles are among her career honors, with Gauff now sharing which tournament she would like to win the most outside of the four majors.
Where will Coco Gauff be ranked at the end of the 2026 season?
Coco Gauff really wants to win the Miami Open
It was put to Gauff on Tennis Channel after her latest match: “You’ve won the biggest tournaments in the world, but where would the Miami Open rank for you in significance?”
She said: “Yeah, I think outside of the Slams it’s probably the number one tournament that I want to win, and then Indian Wells is number two.
“Yeah I think that’s pretty much… I mean obviously there are other tournaments I want to win too, but if I had to pick one, I would definitely pick Miami outside of the Slams.
“And yeah, I think this is my first quarterfinal, which is kind of crazy because I’ve gotten a bye mostly in this tournament. So I’m just happy to get through to this stage.
“Definitely wouldn’t have thought that this year would have been the year I would have got to this stage, but we’ll take it.”
It’s certainly an understandable ambition from WTA superstar Gauff, who hails from Florida’s Delray Beach.
| Year | Titles | Tournaments |
| 2025 | 2 | Wuhan, French Open |
| 2024 | 3 | WTA Finals, Beijing, Auckland |
| 2023 | 4 | US Open, Cincinnati, Washington DC, Auckland |
| 2021 | 1 | Parma |
| 2019 | 1 | Linz |
Coco Gauff makes tennis history after reaching Miami Open quarterfinals
It is indeed a first Miami Open quarterfinal for world number four Gauff, who has just made tennis history by reaching that stage.
The 22-year-old has now reached the quarterfinals of all 10 current WTA 1000 events, and is the youngest player to do so.
Miami was the last remaining in the set, but she will, of course, now be looking to go even further on home soil.
Prove us wrong…
But it certainly won’t be easy for the fourth seed, who has been drawn against Swiss talent Belinda Bencic, the 12th seed.
The American has, however, won four of their six WTA meetings going into the match, where she should also be able to rely on home support to help push her over the line.
