Coco Gauff continues to defy the odds after achieving her best ever result at the Miami Open.
Gauff beat Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, to reach the quarterfinals of the Miami Open for the first time in her career.
The American managed to do this even with her serving woes, with some believing that Gauff’s serving issues are getting worse.
Despite this, Gauff has had her serve compared to the WTA player who she claims has the best serve on the entire Tour.

Coco Gauff claims Elena Rybakina has the best serve on the WTA Tour
Gauff’s serve was a big topic of conversation in her post-match press conference, as she was asked if she had seen a graphic Tennis Channel showing her ball toss.
This was then compared to Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, who many believe has the best serve on the WTA Tour.
Prove us wrong…
Gauff also believes that Rybakina has the best serve on tour, and she suggested that she hopes to reach the same level of consistency on her own serve.
“She is the best server on Tour, so I need to get to there!” Gauff said about Rybakina’s serve. “I saw the graphic and it’s something I have been working on.
“I know my toss isn’t as consistent as I would like it to be but when the pressure hits sometimes you don’t care if they know where you are serving, you are just trying to get it in.
“It is definitely something I have been working on but at the end of the day it’s something I work on in practice and remember in the match, but also I try to do what feels most comfortable.
“But I would like to get to the point of somebody like Elena where it’s pretty spot on every time. It’s definitely one of the things we are working on.”
Where will Coco Gauff be ranked at the end of the 2026 season?
Coco Gauff’s serving statistics at the Miami Open this year
Although Gauff’s serve is something she is constantly working on, it has still been an issue at the Miami Open this year.
The world number four hit the most double faults on Tour last year, and Gauff is on course to do that again having already hit 120 in 2026.
Gauff’s second serve is even an issue when she gets the ball in play, particularly in her match against Cirstea, when she only won 29% of her points.
| Coco Gauff’s Serve | Vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto | Vs Alycia Parks | Vs Sorana Cirstea |
| Aces | 2 | 6 | 1 |
| Double Faults | 11 | 8 | 6 |
| First Serve % | 69% | 60% | 74% |
| First Serve Win % | 77% | 68% | 66% |
| Second Serve Win % | 31% | 47% | 29% |
| Games Broken | 4 | 2 | 5 |
While the serve continues to be a major problem, Gauff continues to battle her way through matches and is now into the Miami Open quarterfinals.
This is where she will play Belinda Bencic, who knocked out Amanda Anisimova in her latest match.
Bencic and Gauff actually had an argument at the China Open last year, and they have not played against each other since then.
