Coco Gauff has impressed with another strong season on the WTA Tour and could still end things on a high with the WTA Finals trophy.

Gauff won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2023 as a teenager, and has had the unenviable task of following that up in 2024.

The young American was unable to pick up a second Grand Slam title this season, but Gauff won the China Open earlier this year, the second WTA 1000 title of her career.

Gauff headed to the WTA Finals hoping to be competitive but could never have expected to perform as well as he has done so far.

Gauff beat Iga Swiatek in her second group stage game, just her second victory over the Pole in 13 attempts.

Gauff’s win over Sabalenka in the semi-finals was another mightily impressive result for the 20-year-old who will now face off against China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final.

Someone that the American knows poses a huge threat.

Coco Gauff says that she and Qinwen Zheng have a ‘similar’ style of play

Speaking after her WTA Finals semi-final win, Gauff spoke about Zheng’s game and what she’s expecting to come up against in the final.

“She likes the courts here,” said Gauff.

“She is tough, she is a good server, a really good mover.

“We have similar game styles in a way.

“It should be a good match but I am looking forward to it.”

Gauff went on to question whether or not her and Zheng would be one of the youngest WTA Finals championship matches in recent times.

“I would be curious to see the last time two people pretty young are in the final,” she said.

Will Coco Gauff and Qinwen Zheng contest the youngest WTA Finals final this century?

As Gauff mentioned, the pair are very young at just 20 and 22-years-of age, and were the two youngest in this year’s WTA Finals field.

But how young will this years final be compared to others this century?

The pair will be the youngest to contest a final since Maria Sharapova took on the legendary Serena Williams 20 years ago in Los Angeles.

Gauff and Zheng would no doubt love to replicate there predecessors success, and will hope to start things off with a maiden WTA Finals crown in Saudi Arabia.

The youngsters will face off in Riyadh for the title on Saturday.
