Coco Gauff explains what she heard from French Open fans during bathroom break in her match vs Ons Jabeur

Coco Gauff shared what she could hear from the fans during her bathroom break at the French Open.

The 20-year-old faced her toughest test of the tournament so far against Ons Jabeur in the quarter-finals and overcame the challenge to reach the last four.

She endured a difficult start after the Tunisian took control of the match by winning the first set.

After leaving the court to compose herself, Gauff noted how the atmosphere generated by the loud and passionate fans impacted her.

What did Coco Gauff hear from the fans at the French Open?

Gauff completed a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over the three-time Grand Slam finalist Jabeur on Tuesday afternoon. But hearing the fans cheer for her opponent after she left the court during the first set helped kickstart her comeback.

Following her victory, the US Open champion said: “She is a tough opponent. She is well loved on tour and I could tell by the crowd today, I know you guys wanted her to win.

“Honestly whenever I am not playing, I cheer for her too. So thank you guys for making it a good atmosphere.

“The people up there made it really fun for me, I like playing in environments for me. Even though you guys were for Ons, I really had a lot of fun even when I lost the first set and they were chanting when I was in the bathroom. I was just like this is just really fun, win or lose.”

Who will Coco Gauff play next?

After booking a spot in her second French Open semi-final, Gauff will take on arch nemesis and World number one Iga Swiatek.

The Czech star reached the Roland Garros semi-final in 2019 and has lost all three of her previous matches against Gauff.

The world number one on the other hand, has been dominant in their rivalry, winning 10 of their 11 matches.

Their most recent contest came at May’s Italian Open, which Swiatek claimed 6-4, 6-3, as she went on to win the title at the Foro Italico for a third time.
