Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz will once again spearhead American hopes of success in 2026, as the two most likely to challenge for Grand Slam titles.

After all, both have reached a final, with the former actually a two-time singles champion.

However, her incredible success at such a young age has been somewhat derailed, and overshadowed, by her recent struggles.

That is what makes her off-season, and subsequent pre-season for 2026, so crucial.

Fortunately, she and Taylor Fritz have just been handed some ideal news ahead of the first Grand Slam of 2026.

Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz find out their United Cup groups

It has already been announced that, as the defending champions, Fritz and Coco Gauff will return to the United Cup again at the start of next year.

This pits 18 nations against one another in a six-group format, with the draw having just been released.

It is this which has afforded the American duo some good news for their Australian Open preparation, as their group looks significantly easier than it could have been.

After all, there are stars like Naomi Osaka, Jack Draper, Emma Raducanu, Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur and Iga Swiatek all planning to play this time around.

And yet, Gauff is now confirmed to be facing Solana Sierra and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, whilst Fritz will play Sebastian Baez and Jaume Munar, making up a group of the USA, Spain and Argentina.

This will afford both stars an easier return to competitive tennis than it could have been at the United Cup, and for Gauff in particular, this will be crucial.

A huge chance for Coco Gauff to practice some new techniques

Whilst she was one of four Grand Slam champions on the WTA Tour across the last year, 2025 was an odd period for Gauff.

After all, whilst she remained one of the best players in the world and an unpredictable threat for every title, there were glaring errors that prevented her from finding consistency.

This manifested into so many unforced errors and double faults, effectively surrendering matches she would have otherwise won with ease.

The United Cup represents the perfect, low-stakes environment for her to start working on her new techniques, after Gauff hired Gavin MacMillan right before this year’s US Open.

After her exit from the WTA Finals in the group stages, the 21-year-old should have at least had a much-needed block of training to begin learning the techniques that could transform her into a threat for every title in 2026.
