Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek will meet for the third successive year at Roland Garros and have shattered three WTA records in the process.

The pair had contrasting victories to set up what will be their 12th career meeting.

The American came from behind to defeat Ons Jabeur in three sets while the World number one beat Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova for the loss of just two games.

With a spot in Saturday’s final on the line and both players in good form, this has the potential to be a thrilling encounter between two of the sport’s best players.

What records have Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek broken?

By reaching the last four at the French Open, Swiatek and Gauff became the first players to face each other in quarter-finals or onwards for three successive years at a single Grand Slam.

The last players to do this were Serena Williams and Lindsay Davenport who played four straight years at the US Open from 1999 to 2002.

They are also the second pair in the Open Era to face each other three or more straight years in the Women’s Singles quarterfinals or onwards at the French Open since Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert from 1984 to 1987.

Lastly, Gauff and Swiatek are the second duo to play each other in quarter-finals or onwards for three or more consecutive years at a single Grand Slam both before turning 23. The first to do this were Gabriela Sabatini and Steffi Graf from 1988 to 1990 at the US Open.

What happened when Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek last played at the French Open?

Swiatek and Gauff first met at Roland Garros in the championship match in 2022, which marked the 20-year-old’s first Grand Slam final.

The American, just 18 at the time, was overwhelmed not only by the occasion but by the brilliance of the World Number one, who cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win.

When they met again the following year, the stage of the tournament was different but the scoreline was very similar.

The pair clashed in the quarter-finals this time around, but once again it was Swiatek who dominated proceedings and won 6-4, 6-2.

After both of those victories over Gauff, Swiatek went on to win the French Open title and she is aiming for a third successive title in 2024.
