Chris Evert has shared her thoughts on if Novak Djokovic will be considered the greatest tennis player of all time.

The Serbian already has that title in the eyes of many after becoming the man with the most number of Grand Slam titles with 24.

He also has the most Masters 1000 titles in addition to the most weeks at number one and more year-end number one finishes than any other player.

Djokovic is now the Olympic champion and is now on a mission to defend the US Open and win a record 25th major.

Does Chris Evert think Novak Djokovic is the greatest of all time?

It was Novak Djokovic’s mission to become the player with the most Grand Slam titles in tennis history.

He achieved that goal by winning the 2023 French Open and extended his record by winning the US Open later that year.

Djokovic holds the majority of tennis’ biggest records, but if he were to win a 25th Grand Slam, which is more than any male or female player has managed, there is no doubt in Evert’s mind on who is tennis’ greatest player.

“I think it would be like Herculean if he [Djokovic] wins this tournament and gets to 25,” the 18-time Grand Slam champion told ESPN.

“I think hands down he would have to be the greatest player ever, male player ever. I think he already is in a lot of people’s minds.”

What did Chris Evert think of Novak Djokovic’s Olympics victory?

The tennis world was left in awe of Djokovic’s display in the Olympic final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Entering as the underdog given Alcaraz’s sensational summer, Djokovic produced a vintage performance to achieve his dream and win the Olympic gold medal.

Reflecting on his 7-6, 7-6 victory, Evert says Djokovic is deserving of his success and was very impressed by what he accomplished in Paris.

Evert said: “I just think for him even to have won the Olympics, after what he went through with the surgery, with seemingly Alcaraz starting to take over, starting to get his number as he did at Wimbledon, for him to come back and find that resilience and find that level of tennis, that actually we haven’t seen the whole year, because he hasn’t won a tournament the whole year, it was like a fairy tale.

“I wouldn’t have expected it. It was a fairy tale. But you know what? I believe in karma. This guy has worked his butt off his whole life, put up with a lot from the press and from being a kind of the bad guy with Federer and Nadal. He deserves it. He deserves it all.”
