The Spaniard was forced to produce his best tennis in a 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) triumph against Jannik Sinner.
Despite Carlos Alcaraz squandering a break lead in both the first and third sets, a magnificent tie-break saw the 21-year-old reel off seven straight points from 0-3 down.
Ahead of the shootout in the deciding set, Sinner had won an astonishing 18 of his past 19 tie-breaks, including one from the first set where he saved multiple set points.
Despite a forced change of shoes after the opening three points, Alcaraz managed to glide to the title.
The truly tantalizing three-hour and 21-minute battle was the longest match in tournament history.
